Titanium is a refractory metal, may be alloyed to similar strength as steel but with 40% less weight. As a result, the material is typically used for applications in the aerospace industry.
Thanks to its unique properties, titanium can easily be alloyed with other elements, for example, iron, aluminium, molybdenum, vanadium, etc. Alloyed with titanium usually have the same strength, corrosion resistance, and weight as pure titanium. However, with titanium alloys, you can enhance preferred properties by adding certain elements to the composition. Consequently, titanium alloys can be used in a greater variety of applications.
In addition to its low weight and high strength, titanium also has a titanium dioxide surface which gives it outstanding resistance to cavitation, erosion and all kinds of corrosion, making it an ideal choice for industrial applications in extreme environments.

Titanium is categorized into various grades, all with their own unique properties. For example, at Al Qarib Trading LLC, we can offer titanium alloys in grade 2 and grade 5, two of the world’s most commonly used titanium-based materials. Titanium Grade 2 is a pure alpha titanium with increased tensile strength compared to grade 1 titanium but with the same excellent formability and corrosion resistance. This grade is commonly used for product forms such as plates, bars and pipes, where ductility and resistance to different types of corrosion are crucial properties. In addition, grade 2 titanium proves useful in chemical processes since it is highly resistant to chemical environments. Its corrosion resistance holds up in nitric acid, mildly reducing acids and wet chlorine or bromine gas.
Titanium Grade 5 is the most widely used titanium alloy, making up around 70% of the total global titanium alloy consumption. Hence this grade is often referred to as “the workhorse” within the aerospace industry. This alpha-beta alloy has good tensile properties at ambient temperature and can resist temperatures ranging from cryogenic to 300°C. Like most titanium alloys, Grade 5 has outstanding resistance to corrosion in most natural and many industrial process environments, in addition to excellent fatigue and crack propagation resistance.
